Infant Foot & Ankle Care

From your precious baby’s first steps, healthy feet and sure-footedness make milestones in a child’s life possible. Starting at birth, paying close attention to your little one’s feet from proper grooming to gait will ensure a solid foundation as your youngster grows. After all, their feet are meant to last a lifetime!

Start your infant or toddler off on the right foot. At Highpoint Foot & Ankle Center we take special care of your smallest ones.

We evaluate your baby or toddler’s first steps (at about 18 months old) and see if they in-toe, out-toe or have flat feet. In most cases, orthotic treatment for young children successfully corrects any gait problems so kids can step easier. We can also painlessly remove painful plantar warts, treat dry, cracked skin and rid toddlers of their ingrown toenails.

Your Baby’s Feet

The human foot–one of the most complicated parts of the body–has 26 bones, including an intricate system of ligaments, muscles, blood vessels and nerves. Because the feet of young children are soft and pliable, abnormal body forces can cause deformities. A child’s feet grow rapidly during the first year.

Common Childhood Foot Complications

As early as birth, foot complications can present themselves in children. Some complications, such as flatfoot and ingrown toenails, can be inherited or caused in the womb. Others can occur as children begin their walk through life, from the occasional fall to an injury suffered playing a sport.

No matter the cause or severity of the problem, the health of a child’s feet should not be taken for granted. If there is a family history of foot problems, a toddler should be seen by a podiatrist who can make sure his/her feet are progressing normally, as soon as the child begins walking.

Highpoint Foot & Ankle Center provides foot care for your entire family, proudly serving Bucks and Montgomery Counties in Pennsylvania, with offices in Chalfont, Doylestown, and Hatboro.
